Practices in Artistry of Thai Foral Garland:Case study of Women's College in the Court

Abstract

The purpose of this study, Practices in Artistry of Thai Foral Garland:Case study of Women’s College in the Court, is to learn how Thai garland artisans of Royal Traditional Thai Crafts School for Women are trained through practicing. The study explains knowledge, practice, and inheritance of this field of art under the context of this school. The artistry of Thai Garland was originated from the ladies of the court and currently instructed in Royal Traditional Thai Crafts School located in the inner court of the Grand Palace. Therefore, it is interesting to study the inheritance of this art, including its social development and usefulness, to see how “The Royal Craftsmen” are different from the general ones.

This study is a quality research, which all data is obtained from observation and interview of the school’s students, teachers, and administrators. The research works under the Practice theory and confines to the subject of “Thai Garland” only.

The study reveals that this school use the traditional way of inheritance from teachers to students, which is observing and practicing, since the artisanship cannot be passed on by reading textbook. The teaching methods begins with basic level in the first semester and getting more complicated in the next one. As this artistry is so meaningful and related to the monarch, everything from the former time have been delicately taught including the tips of choosing materials, meaning, usage, attitude, and believes. This make the students proud, as they are part of the Royal Court. However, the successful inheritance does not only depend on the teacher, the students also need rehearsal to develop themselves into “Royal Craftsmen” who maintain the traditional way of Thai Garland practice among the changing world.

การศึกษาเรื่อง “วิถีปฏิบัติงานช่างฝีมือดอกไม้สด กรณีศึกษาโรงเรียนช่างฝีมือในวัง (หญิง)” มีจุดมุ่งหมายสำคัญในการศึกษากระบวนการสร้างฝึกทักษะแผนกงานช่างฝีมือดอกไม้สดของโรงเรียนช่างฝีมือในวัง (หญิง) และอธิบายถึงความรู้ การปฏิบัติ การถ่ายทอด ภายใต้บริบทพื้นที่โรงเรียนช่างฝีมือในวัง (หญิง) ผ่านมโนทัศน์การปฏิบัติ ด้วยความสำคัญของงานช่างฝีมือดอกไม้สดซึ่งเป็นทรัพยากรวัฒนธรรม ในแขนงงานช่างดั้งเดิมของคนไทย ที่มีต้นกำเนิดมาจากฝ่ายใน ในพระบรมมหาราชวัง ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้เปิดสอนในรูปแบบของโรงเรียนช่างฝีมือ ในเขตพระราชฐานชั้นใน จึงมีความน่าสนใจในกระบวนการถ่ายทอดแบบรักษาคุณค่าของ “ฝีมือช่างในวัง” ที่ถูกทำให้แตกต่างจาก “ฝีมือช่างทั่วไป” การวิจัยครั้งนี้ ใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพภายใต้กรอบแนวคิดทฤษฏีเรื่องการปฏิบัติ (Practice) มีขอบเขตเนื้อหาเฉพาะ “มาลัยดอกไม้สด” ซึ่งเป็นพื้นฐานของงานช่างฝีมือดอกไม้สดโดยเน้นข้อมูลเชิงลึกจากการสังเกตการณ์แบบไม่มีส่วนร่วม และการสัมภาษณ์ครูช่าง นักเรียนช่าง และผู้บริหารโรงเรียน

ผลการศึกษาพบว่ากระบวนการถ่ายทอดภายในโรงเรียนช่างฝีมือในวัง (หญิง) จากครูช่าง ไปสู่นักเรียนช่างนั้น เป็นแบบดั้งเดิมคือการปฏิบัติไปพร้อมกัน เพราะงานช่างฝีมือไม่สามารถจะถ่ายทอดสู่กันผ่านตำราได้ สอนจากขั้นเบื้องต้นไปสู่ขั้นสูง องค์ประกอบสำคัญคือ การเลือกวัตถุดิบ ความประณีตพิถีพิถัน ความหมายและการใช้งานที่ได้รับการถ่ายทอดกันมาแต่โบราณ รวมไปถึงทัศนคติ ความเชื่อ จิตวิญญาณของความเป็นพื้นที่พิเศษที่เกี่ยวเนื่องด้วยสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์ ฝีมือที่ถ่ายทอดไปนั้น ไม่ได้ขึ้นอยู่กับผู้ถ่ายทอดแต่เพียงฝ่ายเดียว แต่ขึ้นอยู่กับผู้สืบทอดที่ต้องฝึกฝนเพื่อเพิ่มความชำนาญ และพัฒนาเป็นฝีมืออย่าง “ช่างชาววัง” ทั้งยังคงรักษารูปแบบความดั้งเดิม ตามรูปแบบและหลักเกณฑ์เฉพาะอันเป็นอัตลักษณ์ของความเป็นมาลัยชาววังเพื่อประโยชน์และนัยยะทางเศรษฐกิจท่ามกลางการเปลี่ยนแปลงของยุคสมัย
