MON'S SPIRITS TOTEM

Abstract

Art Thesis entitled “Mon’s Spirits Totem,” studies Mon’s belief system about inheriting Mon spirits. The process of the study is observing the behavior (ritual dimension) of my family including Mon ethnic group which living in Thailand. This reflects the inheriting our own symbols or totems of “sprits” that men are important in the group to preserve the cultural heritage. As we still hold this belief system for controlling our behavior, I have to strike a balance between the belief system of our ancestors and the belief system of Thai modern society. In this work I reasonably semiologically analyzed the idea to exhibit my creative art works in the forms of mixed-media painting and compositing under the concept of truth-making from belief. I used the totems of the rite to show the reflections on the relation between the abstract power and the concrete power.

วิทยานิพนธ์ศิลปะภายใต้หัวข้อ “สัญลักษณ์ทางจิตวิญญาณ” เป็นการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานทัศนศิลป์ที่สื่อถึงระบบความเชื่อในการสืบทอดผีมอญ ภายใต้การศึกษาและสังเกตพฤติกรรมของสมาชิกในครอบครัวของข้าพเจ้ารวมถึงชาวมอญในประเทศไทยในมิติของพิธีกรรม สะท้อนให้เห็นการถ่ายทอดระบบสัญลักษณ์ “ผี” ที่มีผู้ชายเป็นตัวแปรสำคัญในการธำรงชาติพันธุ์ของชาวมอญ สภาวะที่ถูกควบคุมโดยระบบความความเชื่อทำให้ข้าพเจ้าต้องปรับสมดุลระหว่างการสืบทอดความเชื่อของบรรพบุรุษให้สอดคล้องกับวิถีชีวิตที่ข้าพเจ้าดำเนินอยู่ในสังคมสมัยใหม่ข้าพเจ้าจึงจำเป็นต้องอาศัยตรรกะทางสัญวิทยาและการพิจารณาด้วยเหตุผล เป็นกระบวนการสำคัญในการถ่ายทอดผลงานสร้างสรรค์ในรูปแบบจิตรกรรมสื่อผสมและงานจัดวางภายใต้แนวคิดการสร้างความจริงจากความเชื่อ โดยมุ่งเน้นการใช้สัญลักษณ์ในโครงสร้างของพิธีกรรมแสดงความสัมพันธ์ที่โต้ตอบกันระหว่างอำนาจในเชิงนามธรรมสู่รูปธรรม
