MOVING JEWELRY DESIGN INSPIRATION FROM ONOMATOPOEIA

Abstract

I am a foreigner who move to stay in Bangkok, Thailand so I am very interesting about the differences and the similar between Thai and Japanese language. In both language they have a type of word call “Onomatopoeia”. Thai people use this kind of word to describe or explain the sound of the nature such as cat crying meaw meaw or bird singing jib jib. In Japanese “Onomatopoeia” is a type of word that Japanese people use for describe or explain not just only the sound but including the picture so you can clearly understand and Japanese people always use “Onomatopoeia” in daily life such as raining sound “Su Su” or the moving water sound “JokJok” so Onomatopoeia in different language sometime have a different pronunciation because they use different root of languages such as alphabet and tone for example in Thai the clock sound "tik tok" but in Japan sound " kachi kachi " I am also interest in “Kinetic art”. I want to develop the movement techniques of Kinetic art for my moving jewelry design for represent the meaning of Onomatopoeia.

เนื่องด้วยข้าพเจ้าเป็นชาวต่างชาติที่ย้ายมาอาศัยอยู่ในประเทศไทย ข้าพเจ้าจึงมีความสนใจเรื่องภาษาที่แตกต่างกันระหว่างไทยและญี่ปุ่น ในภาษาไทยมีคำชนิดหนึ่งที่เรียกว่า “สัทพจน์” ซึ่งในภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาญี่ปุ่น ใช้คำว่า Onomatopoeia (โอโนมาโตเปะ) หมายถึง การเลียนเสียงธรรมชาติ คำที่เลียนรูปแบบทางสัทศาสตร์ของแหล่งกำเนิดเสียงที่พยายามจะกล่าวถึง สัทพจน์ เป็นโวหารภาพพจน์อย่างหนึ่งที่ ใช้ตัวอักษรสะกดให้ออกเสียงให้คล้ายกับเสียงที่เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติหรือที่ได้ยินทั่วไปมากที่สุด สัทพจน์ที่สามารถพบได้บ่อยคือการเลียนเสียงสัตว์ เช่น เหมียวๆ จิ๊บๆ สัทพจน์อาจจะไม่เหมือนกันในแต่ละภาษา เนื่องจากระบบทางภาษาศาสตร์ที่แตกต่างกันเป็นตัวควบคุมลักษณะของสัทพจน์ อาทิ เสียงของนาฬิกา เมื่อเลียนเสียงแล้ว คือติ๊กต๊อกในภาษาไทย, หรือ kachi kachi ในภาษาญี่ปุ่น โอโนมาโตเปะ (Onomatopoeia) ในภาษาญี่ปุ่น เป็นคำเลียนแบบจากทั้งภาพ และเสียง ออกมาเป็นคำจนสามารถอธิบายให้เข้าใจได้ชัดเจน เช่น ฝนตก “สู้ สู้” น้ำไหล “จ๊อก จ๊อก” ซึ่งคนญี่ปุ่นมักใช้คำโอโนมาโตเปะเพื่อสื่อสารกันในชีวิตประจำวันอีกทั้งข้าพเจ้ามีความสนใจในงานประติมากรรมแบบเคลื่อนไหวได้ “จลนศิลป์” (Kinetic Art) จึงต้องการนำรูปแบบการเคลื่อนไหวของจลนศิลป์นี้มาพัฒนาเป็นเครื่องประดับเพื่อนำเสนอความหมายของคำโอโนมาโตเปะ (Onomatopoeia)
