EFFECTS OF USING SQ3R STRATEGY AND E-BOOK TO ENHANCE READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS FOR GRADE 6 STUDENTS

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare students English comprehensive reading ability before and after using SQ3R strategy and e-book to enhance comprehensive reading ability; and 2) investigate students’ opinions toward SQ3R strategy and e-book.

The sample, selected by a simple random sampling technique, comprised 36 grade-six students at Nakprasith School during the first semester of academic year 2019. The students studied 4 learning units with SQ3R strategy and e-book to enhance comprehensive reading ability. Each unit was conducted in 1 hour and the experiment covered 6 hours in total.

The instruments used for this research consisted of: 1) 4 units with SQ3R strategy; 2) E-book with 4 stories; 3) an English reading comprehension test, used as a pretest and posttest; and 4) an opinion questionnaire toward SQ3R strategy and e-book. Mean and standard deviation of items were used to evaluate the students’ opinions toward SQ3R strategy and e-book. The paired-sample t-test was used to analyze the students’ ability in English comprehensive reading.

The results of the study were as follows:

1. The students’ English comprehensive reading ability after using SQ3R strategy and e-book were significantly higher at the 0.05 level.

2. The students’ satisfaction toward SQ3R strategy and e-book were at the highest level.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความสามารถด้านการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 ก่อนและหลังการใช้เทคนิคการสอนอ่าน SQ3R ร่วมกับหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์และ 2) เพื่อศึกษาความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อการใช้เทคนิคการสอนอ่าน SQ3R ร่วมกับหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์

กลุ่มตัวอย่างได้แก่นักเรียนระดับชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 โรงเรียนนาคประสิทธิ์ภาคเรียนที่ 1 ปีการศึกษา 2562 ด้วยการสุ่มอย่างง่าย จำนวน 1 ห้องเรียน 36 คน จากนั้นทำการทดลองโดยให้นักเรียนทำแบบทดสอบก่อนบทเรียน จำนวน 4 บทเรียน และจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนโดยใช้เทคนิคการสอนอ่าน SQ3R ร่วมกับหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ ใช้เวลาทั้งสิ้น 6 ชั่วโมง

เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยประกอบด้วย 1) หน่วยการเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษโดยใช้เทคนิคการสอนอ่านแบบ SQ3R ของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปี ที่ 6 จำนวน 4 หน่วย ใช้เวลาในการทดลองสอน 6 ชั่วโมง 2)หนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์จำนวน 4 เรื่อง ได้แก่ 1) Wendy and Her Family 2) Harry’s Diary 3) How to survive anything และ 4) A Year in My Country 3) แบบทดสอบวัดความเข้าใจในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษด้วยวิธีการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้เทคนิคการอ่าน SQ3R ของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 เป็นแบบปรนัยชนิดเลือกตอบ 4 ตัวเลือก จำนวน 40 ข้อ และ 4) แบบสอบถามความความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อเทคนิคการสอนอ่าน SQ3R ร่วมกับหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติพื้นฐาน ได้แก่ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐานและสถิติทดสอบ t แบบไม่เป็นอิสระต่อกัน

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) ทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 หลังเรียนด้วยเทคนิคการสอนอ่าน SQ3R ร่วมกับหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์สูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.05 และ 2) นักเรียนระดับชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 มีความพึงพอใจต่อการใช้เทคนิคการสอนอ่าน SQ3R ร่วมกับหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ อยู่ในระดับมากที่สุด
