The analysis of Antonio Sanchez’s improvisation techniques

Abstract

This research aims to analyze Antonio Sanchez's improvisation from “Speaking of Now live (2003)” which includes 2 of Sanchez’s solos: “The Gathering sky” and “Song for Bilbao”. This research will focus on 3 topics: 1) Rhythmic Repetitions and Developments 2) Orchestrations and 3) Polyrhythms to illustrate his principles to construct phrasings.

The analysis shows that Sanchez used a foot cowbell and hi–hats in every bar to create a rhythmic foundation and used combinations of repetitive rhythms, rhythmic developments, drums orchestrations, and polyrhythms to construct phrasings.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้จัดทำขึ้นเพื่อวิเคราะห์การบรรเลงคีตปฏิภาณของ อันโทนิโอ ซานเชส ในงานบันทึกคอนเสิร์ต Speaking of Now live (2003) ซึ่งมีบทเพลงที่ อันโทนิโอ ซานเชส ได้บรรเลงคีตปฏิภาณไว้ 2 บทเพลงคือ The Gathering Sky และ Song for Bilbao โดยในการวิจัยจะมุ่งเน้นไปที่หัวข้อ 3 ประการได้แก่ 1) การซ้ำและพัฒนาลักษณะจังหวะ 2) การเรียบเรียงเสียงกลอง และ 3) การใช้หลากจังหวะ เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นถึงหลักการในการสร้างประโยค

ผลจากการวิจัยพบว่าในขณะบรรเลงคีตปฏิภาณ อันโทนิโอ ซานเชส จะทำการการใช้ฟุตคาวเบลหรือไฮแฮทเพื่อบ่งบอกจังหวะในแต่ละห้องและมีวิธีการสร้างประโยคด้วยการผสมผสานการซ้ำ การพัฒนาลักษณะจังหวะ การเรียบเรียงเสียงกลองและการใช้ลักษณะหลากจังหวะ
