THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUPPLEMENTARY EXERCISES FOCUSING ON UNDERSTANDING THE MEANING OF ENGLISH VOCABULARY IN DAILY LIFE BY USING CONTEXT CLUES STRATEGIES FOR MATHAYOMSUKSA FOUR STUDENTS OF THONGPHAPHUMWITTAYA SCHOOL

Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) to develop the supplementary exercises focusing on understanding the meaning of English vocabulary in daily life by using context clues strategies for Mathayomsuksa four students, 2) to compare students’ ability to comprehend English vocabulary in daily life before and after learning the context clues strategies for guessing the meanings of words, and 3) to study students’ satisfaction with the exercises.

The sample was 31 Mathayomsuksa four students of Thongphaphumwittaya School in the academic year 2020. They were selected using purposive sampling technique. The students studied the meaning of English vocabulary by using the supplementary exercises focusing on understanding the meaning of English vocabulary in daily life using context clues strategies. The duration of experimental research covered five-week periods, 2 class sessions each week.

The instruments used for collecting data consisted of: 1) five lesson plans based on the supplementary exercises focusing on understanding the meaning of English vocabulary in daily life by using context clues strategies, 2) an English achievement test to study English vocabulary by using context clues strategies before and after studying, and 3) a questionnaire on satisfaction with the supplementary exercises focusing on understanding the meaning of English vocabulary in daily life by using context clues strategies.

The results of this study were as follows:

1.) The efficiency of the supplementary exercises focusing on understanding the meaning of English vocabulary in daily life by using context clues strategies was 83.36 / 77.30.

2.) The student’s ability to understand the meaning of English vocabulary by using the context clue strategies was significantly higher at 0.05 level.

3.) The students’ satisfaction with the supplementary exercises was “the highest satisfied”

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อ 1) พัฒนาแบบฝึกเสริมการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันโดยการใช้กลวิธีในการเดาความหมายจากบริบท นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 โรงเรียนทองผาภูมิวิทยา อำเภอทองผาภูมิ จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี ให้ได้ตามเกณฑ์ 75/75 2) เปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 โรงเรียนทองผาภูมิวิทยา อำเภอทองผาภูมิ จังหวัดกาญจนบุรีก่อนและหลังใช้แบบฝึกเสริมการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันโดยการใช้กลวิธีในการเดาความหมายจากบริบท 3) ศึกษาความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อการใช้แบบฝึกเสริมการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันโดยการใช้กลวิธีการเดาความหมายจากบริบท นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 โรงเรียนทองผาภูมิวิทยา อำเภอทองผาภูมิ จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี

กลุ่มตัวอย่าง เป็นนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 ปีการศึกษา 2563 โรงเรียนทองผาภูมิวิทยา อำเภอทองผาภูมิ จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี โดยวิธีการเลือกแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง จำนวน 1 ห้องเรียน คือ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4/1 จำนวน 31 คน ทำการทดลองโดยการใช้แบบฝึกเสริมการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันโดยการใช้กลวิธีในการเดาความหมายจากบริบท ใช้เวลาในการทดลอง 5 สัปดาห์ ๆ ละ 2 คาบเรียน รวมทั้งสิ้นจำนวน 10 คาบเรียน

เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ คือ 1) แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้แบบฝึกเสริมการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันโดยการใช้กลวิธีในการเดาความหมายจากบริบท จำนวน 5 แผน 2) แบบทดสอบวัดผลสัมฤทธิ์ในการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษโดยใช้กลวิธีการเดาความหมายจากบริบทก่อนเรียนและหลังเรียน 3) แบบสอบถามความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อการใช้แบบฝึกและกลวิธีการเดาความหมายคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษจากบริบท

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) แบบฝึกเสริมการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันโดยการใช้กลวิธีในการเดาความหมายจากบริบท มีประสิทธิภาพ เท่ากับ 83.36 / 77.30 2) ความสามารถในการเข้าใจคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตประจำวันของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 โรงเรียนทองผาภูมิวิทยา อำเภอทองผาภูมิ จังหวัด กาญจนบุรี หลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ 0.05 และ 3) ผลการศึกษาความพึงพอใจ ค่าระดับเฉลี่ยรวมอยู่ในระดับพึงพอใจมากที่สุด (X̄ = 4.68 , S.D. = 0.19)
