The Effects of Learning Management to Improve Knowledge and Retention of English Vocabulary through Flashcards Techniques for Fifth Graders

Abstract

The purposes of the research were to: 1) compare the students’ vocabulary learning achievement before and after learning by technical flashcards; 2) study the retention of students after learning by using technical flashcards and 3) explore the students’ satisfaction toward teaching by using technical flashcard and English subject.

The sample was 43 grade 5 students at Watsanphet School who can study on site in the Covid-19 situation. They were selected by simple random. The duration of the experiment was 2 weeks. The instruments consisted of: 1) lesson plans; 2) teachers’ flashcards are 20 and students’ flashcards are 160 ; 3) a vocabulary pre-test, post-test and retention test are 23 items and 4) a questionnaire on satisfaction toward teaching by using flashcards technique.

The research result were: 1) the students’ vocabulary learning achievement after using flashcards technique was significantly higher than before at the .05 level; 2) the students’ retention in teaching vocabulary after using flashcards technique for 2 weeks was not different from the post-test and 3) the students’ satisfaction toward teaching by using flashcards technique were at the high level.

การวิจัยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบผลการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษก่อนและหลังเรียน โดยการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์ 2) เพื่อศึกษาความคงทนในการจำคำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษหลังจากการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์ 3) เพื่อศึกษาความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์

กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ ได้แก่ นักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 5 โรงเรียนวัดสรรเพชญ ตำบลยายชา อำเภอสามพราน จังหวัดนครปฐม ปีการศึกษา 2564 จำนวน 1 ห้องเรียน เป็นห้องเรียนแบบ On-site จำนวนนักเรียน 43 คน ที่ได้มาจากการเลือกมาเป็นแบบกลุ่ม (Intact-group comparison) โดยเลือกจากนักเรียนที่สามารถมาเรียน On site ที่โรงเรียนได้ตามมาตรการการป้องกันการแพร่ระบาดของเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 (Covid-2019) ระยะเวลาที่ใช้ในการทดลอง 2 สัปดาห์ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ได้แก่ 1) แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยเทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์ 2) บัตรคำศัพท์สำหรับครู จำนวน 20 คำ และสำหรับนักเรียน จำนวน 160 ใบ จำนวน 6 ชุด 3) แบบทดสอบวัดผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษก่อนเรียนและหลังเรียน จำนวน 23 ข้อ และใช้เพื่อวัดความคงทนในการจดจำคำศัพท์ 5) แบบวัดความพึงพอใจต่อการเรียนโดยเทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์

ผลวิจัยพบว่า 1) ผลการเรียนรู้การเรียนรู้คำศัพท์โดยเทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์ของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 5 โรงเรียนวัดสรรเพชญหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ที่ระดับ .05 2) ความคงทนในการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์โดยเทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์ของนักเรียน ชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 5 โรงเรียนวัดสรรเพชญหลังเรียนไปแล้ว 2 สัปดาห์ไม่แตกต่างกันกับการทดสอบหลังเรียน 3) ความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อการเรียนโดยใช้เทคนิคการใช้บัตรคำศัพท์ โดยภาพรวมทั้งหมดนักเรียนมีความพึงพอใจในระดับ มาก
