From Metal Waste to Fashion Apparels and Textiles of the “New Normal” Era

Abstract

The objective of this research is to create textile and apparels works from metal wastes left over from industrial production. According to the study of wastes causes and management, metal wastes is one of the leftovers that is not handled in the correct way. Melting those metal wastes for reuse could significantly pollute the environment. Additionally, the researcher has discovered the importance of applying metal wastes to textile and apparels works, as metal was used as a part of garments to show people’s social status in the Byzantine era. This could multiply the value of metal material. This research is an experimental study with a hypothesis of integrating materials made from reusing metal scraps with a value-added method applied, to bridge the concept of sustainable design to society. The crisis in the environment and natural resources, together with the recent global pandemic, have reshaped world society into a "New Normal," where people emphasize and prioritize nature and the environment.

The process of adding value to metal wastes under this research is accomplished by visiting industrial areas and analyzing the information, leading to new knowledge that can be used to manage and design metal wastes. The metal wastes, in line form, powder form, sheet form, and piece form, will be integrated with natural materials such as cotton, silk, and liquid from rubber trees. The researcher also applies aesthetic principles to design and create for beauty and contemporariness, aiming to add actual value to the metal wastes in the form of textile and clothing works in the New Normal era.

ดุษฎีนิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานสิ่งทอและเครื่องแต่งกายจากเศษวัสดุ ประเภทโลหะที่เหลือจากการผลิตในระบบอุตสาหกรรม จากการศึกษาข้อมูลการเกิดและการจัดการ ของเศษวัสดุในปัจจุบัน ค้นพบว่าเศษวัสดุประเภทโลหะนั้นเป็นวัสดุประเภทหนึ่งที่ไม่ได้รับการจัดการ อย่างถูกวิธี นำไปสู่การสร้างมลภาวะให้กับสิ่งแวดล้อมได้อย่างมหาศาลจากการนำไปหลอมเพื่อ กลับมาใช้งานใหม่ ทั้งนี้ผู้วิจัยเล็งเห็นถึงความสำคัญในการนำเศษโลหะมาใช้งานต่อในรูปแบบสิ่งทอ และเครื่องแต่งกายเนื่องจากในอดีตตั้งแต่สมัยไบแซนไทน์มีการนำโลหะมาใช้ผลิตเป็นเครื่องแต่งกายเพื่อบ่งบอกถึงสถานนะทางสังคม ซึ่งนับเป็นการทวีค่าให้กับวัสดุโลหะ โดยการวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัย เชิงทดลองที่มีสมมุติฐานในการสร้างวัสดุผสานที่เกิดขึ้นจากการนำเศษโลหะมาใช้ใหม่ด้วยวิธีการสร้าง มูลค่าเพิ่ม เพื่อเชื่อมโยงหลักแนวคิดการออกแบบที่ยั่งยืนเข้าสู่สังคมในปัจจุบัน ด้วยวิกฤตการณ์ ด้านสิ่งแวดล้อมและทรัพยากรของโลกที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็ว อีกทั้งการรับมือกับโรคระบาด ครั้งใหญ่ที่ผ่านมาของสังคมโลกทำให้วิถีชีวิตของผู้คนเปลี่ยนแปลงไป นำไปสู่การใช้ชีวิตรูปแบบใหม่ ที่ทุกคนใส่ใจและหันมาให้ความสำคัญกับธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม

กระบวนการสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับเศษวัสดุประเภทโลหะภายใต้ดุษฎีนิพนธ์นี้ เกิดจาก การลงพื้นที่โรงงานอุตสาหกรรม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลอันนำไปสู่การทดลองพัฒนาวัสดุเพื่อให้เกิด องค์ความรู้ใหม่สำหรับใช้เป็นแนวทางในการจัดการและออกแบบเศษวัสดุประเภทโลหะ ทั้งรูปแบบเส้น รูปแบบผง รูปแบบแผ่นและรูปแบบชิ้น ด้วยการใช้วัสดุจากธรรมชาติมาเป็นตัวผสานกับเศษ โลหะเพื่อให้ได้วัสดุใหม่ ซึ่งวัสดุธรรมชาติในกระบวนการวิจัยนี้ได้แก่ เส้นฝ้าย เส้นไหม และ น้ำยางพารา จนไปสู่การใช้หลักสุนทรียศาสตร์ในการออกแบบผลลัพธ์การใช้งานของวัสดุ เพื่อให้เกิดความงามและความร่วมสมัย ซึ่งจะทำให้เกิดการสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับเศษวัสดุประเภทโลหะได้อย่างแท้จริงภายใต้รูปแบบของสิ่งทอและเครื่องแต่งกายยุค New normal
