dc.description.abstractThe Shiwan Kiln, a significant component of China's ceramic legacy, possesses a rich historical lineage that can be traced back to the Tang and Song dynasties. Its zenith was achieved during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Contemporary Shiwan Kiln cookware, with its significant cultural and historical importance, encounters challenges including seepage problems and outdated designs. These issues have resulted in a decreased interest among younger generations. The researcher was a seasoned kiln artist with over three decades of experience. This study employed a practice-based, mixed-methods approach to tackle these issues. The study sought to achieve three objectives: firstly, it examined the existing condition of Shiwan Kiln cookware and identified areas that needed improvement; secondly, it established a framework for enhancing the quality of Shiwan Kiln cookware, leading to the creation of prototypes; and thirdly, it evaluated the new Shiwan Kiln cookware. The research methodology utilized a comprehensive multi-phase mixed-methods approach, which involved conducting literature reviews, interviewing experts, administering questionnaires, conducting laboratory testing, and obtaining expert evaluations. The research samples included a diverse range of sources, such as literature on Shiwan Kiln and minimalist-modern aesthetic theory, insights gathered from anonymous participants through questionnaires, and input from experts who specialized in fields related to Shiwan Kiln. The study progressed through three distinct stages. It involved conducting a thorough analysis of existing literature and gathering qualitative data. A framework was then constructed and prototypes were developed. Finally, the prototypes were evaluated by experts.en
