VIETNAMESE CULTURAL TERMS: STRATEGIES FOR TRANSLATION INTO THAI IN NOVELS TICKET TO CHILDHOOD AND OPEN THE WINDOW, EYES CLOSED.

Abstract

This research aims to study the strategies of Vietnamese cultural terms into Thai and study the culture of Vietnam and Thailand through the strategies of translation. The data of this research is collected from 2 Vietnamese novels Cho toi xin mot ve di tuoi tho (Give me a ticket to the childhood) and Vua nham mat vua mo cua so (Open the window, eyes closed) and their Thai version translated by Montira Rato

The study found that there are 6 main strategies to translate Vietnamese cultural terms into Thai: literal translation, lexical translation, generic- specific words, ellipsis, translate into other things and mixed strategies.

As for the Vietnamese and Thai culture through strategies to translate Vietnamese cultural terms into Thai, Vietnamese and Thai have similar and different culture. The literal translation, lexical translation and generic-specific word show the similar culture. The mixed strategies, generic-specific word, lexical translation show the different culture.

การศึกษาเรื่อง กลวิธีการแปลคำทางวัฒนธรรมจากภาษาเวียดนามเป็นภาษาไทย ในนวนิยาย ขอตั๋วหนึ่งใบกลับไปสู่วัยเด็ก และ ปิดตาเปิดหน้าต่าง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีการแปลคำทางวัฒนธรรมจากภาษาเวียดนามเป็นภาษาไทย และศึกษาวัฒนธรรมเวียดนามและไทยผ่านกลวิธีการแปลคำทางวัฒนธรรมโดยได้เก็บข้อมูลคำทางวัฒนธรรมจากนวนิยายสองเรื่องคือขอตั๋วหนึ่งใบกลับไปสู่วัยเด็ก และ ปิดตา เปิดหน้าต่าง

ผลการศึกษากลวิธีการแปลคำทางวัฒนธรรมจำนวน 278 คำ พบว่ามีกลวิธีการแปล 6 กลวิธีเรียงตามความถี่จากมากที่สุดไปน้อยที่สุดได้แก่ กลวิธีการแปลแบบตรงตัว กลวิธีการแปลแบบเทียบเคียงความหมาย กลวิธีการแปลแบบใช้คำจำแนกประเภท กลวิธีการแปลแบบละไม่แปล กลวิธีการแปลแบบแปลเป็นอย่างอื่น และ กลวิธีการแปลแบบผสม

ในการศึกษาวัฒนธรรมเวียดนามและไทยผ่านกลวิธีการแปลคำทางวัฒนธรรมพบว่า วัฒนธรรมเวียดนามและไทยมีทั้งเหมือนหรือคล้ายคลึงกันและวัฒนธรรมที่แตกต่างกัน โดยวัฒนธรรมที่เหมือนหรือคล้ายคลึงกันได้แสดงผ่านกลวิธีการแปล 3 กลวิธีได้แก่ กลวิธีการแปลแบบตรงตัว กลวิธีการแปลแบบเทียบเคียงความหมาย กลวิธีการแปลแบบใช้คำจำแนกประเภท ส่วนวัฒนธรรมเวียดนามและไทยที่แตกต่างกันได้แสดงผ่านกลวิธีการแปลแบบผสม กลวิธีการแปลแบบใช้คำจำแนกประเภท และ กลวิธีการแปลแบบเทียบเคียงความหมาย
