DEVELOPMENT OF LESSONS TO ENHANCE HOTEL ENGLISH LISTENING-SPEAKING ABILITIES FOR HOSPITALITY PROGRAM STUDENTS OF NAKHON PATHOM VOCATIONAL COLLEGE

Abstract

The purposes of the study were to 1) develop an English for hotel listening-speaking lessons to meet the efficient criterion of 75/75, 2) compare the first year hospitality students’ English for hotel listening-speaking abilities before and after using the lessons, and 3) study the students’ opinions toward the constructed lessons. The research sample, selected by a purposive sampling technique, was comprised of 12 first-year hospitality students of Nakhon Pathom Vocational College. The students did the pre-test, studied the English for hotel listening and speaking lessons, took the post-test and answered the questionnaire regarding opinions toward the lessons within the duration of 16 hours.

The research instruments consisted of 1) six units of English for hotel listening-speaking lessons, 2) English listening-speaking for hotel achievement test, and 3) a questionnaire. The paired-sample t-test was used to analyze the gathered data in order to assess the students’ listening and speaking abilities in English for hotel use before and after studying the constructed lessons. Average and standard deviation were used to evaluate the students’ opinions toward the lessons. The results of the study were as follows: 1) the efficiency of the constructed lessons was 80.38/79.86 that was higher than the expected criterion (75/75), 2) the students’ listening-speaking abilities were higher than those before studying the constructed lessons, and 3) the students’ opinions toward the constructed lessons were highly positive (average = 4.63 and standard deviation = 0.49).

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) พัฒนาและหาประสิทธิภาพบทเรียนสร้างเสริมความสามารถด้านการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรม ให้ได้ตามเกณฑ์ 75/75 2) เปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมก่อนและหลังการเรียนโดยใช้บทเรียนที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น และ 3) ศึกษาความคิดเห็นของนักศึกษาที่มีต่อบทเรียนที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ นักศึกษาสาขาวิชาการโรงแรม ระดับปริญญาตรีชั้นปีที่ 1 วิทยาลัยอาชีวศึกษานครปฐม จำนวน 12 คน ในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2560 ซึ่งได้มาจากการเลือกแบบเจาะจง ทำการทดลองโดยให้นักศึกษาทำแบบทดสอบก่อนเรียน เรียนโดยใช้บทเรียนที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น ทำแบบทดสอบหลังเรียนและแบบสอบถามความคิดเห็น โดยใช้เวลาในการทดลอง จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 16 ชั่วโมง โดยแบ่งออกเป็นเวลาในการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทเรียนที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น จำนวน 3 สัปดาห์ สัปดาห์ละ 4 ชั่วโมง รวม 12 ชั่วโมง และเวลาในการทดสอบก่อนและหลังเรียน จำนวน 2 สัปดาห์ สัปดาห์ละ 2 ชั่วโมง รวม 4 ชั่วโมง

เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ 1) บทเรียนสร้างเสริมความสามารถด้านการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรม จำนวน 6 บท 2) แบบทดสอบวัดความสามารถด้านการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมทั้งทางตรงและทางอ้อม และ 3) แบบสอบถามความคิดเห็นของนักศึกษาที่มีต่อบทเรียนที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น และสถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และ t-test ผลการวิจัย พบว่า 1) ประสิทธิภาพของบทเรียนสร้างเสริมความสามารถด้านการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรม มีค่าเท่ากับ 80.38/79.86 ซึ่งมีสูงกว่าเกณฑ์ที่กำหนดไว้คือ 75/75 ถือว่ามีประสิทธิภาพอยู่ในระดับดีมาก 2) ความสามารถในการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมของนักศึกษาหลังการเรียนโดยใช้บทเรียนสร้างเสริมความสามารถด้านการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมสูงกว่าก่อนการเรียนโดยใช้บทเรียนที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น และ 3) นักศึกษามีความคิดเห็นต่อบทเรียนสร้างเสริมความสามารถด้านการฟัง-พูดภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรมในระดับดีมาก โดยมีค่าเฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 4.63 และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐานเท่ากับ 0.49
