The Figure of Breath

Abstract

This art thesis entitled “Figure of Breath” aimed to investigate content and expression of value and meaning of bodily existence and life by decoding the appearance of figure and space in drawings and sculptures. Moreover, the existing state of breath, both inhalation and exhalation, under the suffering from perception of mother’s and artist’s ailments was also considered.

The physical property of breath and expression of space, in the drawings and sculptures, were important visual element. Nevertheless, both were neglected by artist and audiences. The properties of breath’s existence were considered by suddenly drawing on flat and bending metal sieve with hands and awakened mind. In addition, the picked materials were adopted as drawing equipment while the metal sieves (ready-made material) were adopted as sculpting material. The consideration helped artist to realize that both had similar properties such as frailty, lightweight, motion and transformation occurred by inner and outer forces.

The result found that form and technique helped the artist to pass over the primary skills and knowledges, and directly led the artist to respond to feelings and internal perception in each moment. The blurred figures of space, in the drawings, which was full of moving power were applied to create transparent and transformed sculpture. As the result, the expression of space was found by considering properties and relations of breath appearing as human figure. In this case, the breath and space were area that linked nature with the artist’s and surrounded people’s existences.

การศึกษาค้นคว้าและสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปนิพนธ์หัวข้อ รูปแห่งลมหายใจ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาและการแสดงออก ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับคุณค่าและความหมายของการดำรงอยู่ของร่างกายและชีวิต ผ่านการถอดความหมายของการปรากฏรูปและพื้นที่ว่างในผลงานวาดเส้น ประติมากรรม และสภาวะการดำรงอยู่ของลมหายใจที่เคลื่อนไหวไหลเวียนเข้าออกภายในร่างกาย ในขณะอยู่ภายใต้ทุกขสภาวะที่เกิดขึ้นจากความสะเทือนใจที่ได้รับจากการรับรู้ถึงความเจ็บป่วยของมารดาและตนเอง

โดยการศึกษาคุณสมบัติทางกายภาพของลมหายใจ และการแสดงออกของพื้นที่ว่างในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานวาดเส้นและประติมากรรม ที่ทั้งสองสิ่ง (ลมหายใจและพื้นที่ว่าง) นับเป็นสิ่งสำคัญและทัศนธาตุที่มักถูกละเลยจากผู้สร้างสรรค์และผู้ชม ซึ่งพบว่ามีคุณสมบัติที่คล้ายกัน อาทิ ความบอบบาง แผ่วเบา อาการเคลื่อนไหวและแปรเปลี่ยนรูปจากแรงกระทำ ทั้งจากภายนอกและภายในอยู่ตลอดเวลา จากการพิจารณาคุณลักษณะการดำรงอยู่ของลมหายใจด้วยจิตตื่นรู้ ด้วยเทคนิคการวาดเส้นอย่างฉับพลันบนระนาบแบนด้วยวัสดุเก็บตก และการสร้างสรรค์รูปทรงลอยตัวด้วยการใช้มือดัดตะแกรงโลหะ (วัสดุสำเร็จรูป)

ผลของการศึกษา พบว่ารูปแบบและวิธีการที่ใช้ ทำให้สามารถก้าวข้ามทักษะและความรู้เดิมไปสู่การโต้ตอบกับความรู้สึก และการสัมผัสรับรู้ภายในแต่ละชั่วขณะได้โดยตรง ผ่านการสร้างสรรค์รูปทรงของพื้นที่ว่างที่พร่าเลือนและเต็มไปด้วยพลังแห่งความเคลื่อนไหวในงานวาดเส้น ต่อยอดไปสู่ประติมากรรมที่โปร่งใสและมีอาการแปรเปลี่ยนของรูป เพื่อแสดงออกให้เห็นถึงสาระสำคัญของพื้นที่ว่างที่ค้นพบ จากการพิจารณาคุณลักษณะและความสัมพันธ์ของลมหายใจที่ปรากฏรูปเป็นเรือนร่างมนุษย์ในความหมายที่ว่า ลมหายใจและพื้นที่ว่างคือพื้นที่ที่เชื่อมโยงคุณลักษณะของธรรมชาติกับการมีอยู่ของผู้สร้างสรรค์และผู้คนที่แวดล้อมเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน
