Abstract:                The aims of this research are to study the problems of souvenirs of the museum shop in The Coin Museum, The Treasury Department, and to suggest suitable and possible design guidelines for sale. The methods are to collect data from involved documents and inquire stakeholders about souvenirs and the museum shop of The Coin Museum. The population study is divided into three groups which are (1) government stakeholders, (2) stakeholders from private sectors and (3) people visiting The Coin Museum and its museum shop. Other methods are participation observation and non-participation observation, informal, semi-formal and in-depth interviews, and a survey of souvenirs at many museum shops in Thailand and foreign countries. The study indicates three problems about souvenirs. First, the museum is managed by a private company in the first term; the result is most souvenirs are not outstanding enough and not designed to present the museum’s identity. Second, the museum is managed by Bureau of Grand National Treasure of The Treasury Department in the second term, the result is most souvenirs are not various and functional. Third, the mutual problems under the management of the private company and Bureau of Grand National Treasure are the souvenirs are too expensive to buy, they are not designed to meet the needs of children and teenagers who are the largest target audience and souvenirs do not have some knowledge of the museum’s stories or items displayed in the museum.             From the result of the study, the guidelines for souvenir design of The Coin Museum are to 1) present the museum’s identity, 2) feature things, such as museum’s logo or name, to make the museum well-known, 3) show knowledge or necessary information on the souvenirs,  4) present symbols, national or local cultures, 5) be functional and 6) be beautiful and interesting. Considered as remarkable items which present museum’s identity, the researcher chooses four items which are (1) Pod Duang (bullet money), (2) coins with the Sun-Sriwatsa design (coins used during the Funan kingdom), (3) royal gift coins and (4) circulating coins produced in the reign of King Rama IX, and designs them to be functional with the lowest price of 10 bath and the highest price not over of 600 baht. Official marks or auspicious symbols imprinted on old money, involving religions and the monarch, could be used for souvenir design with careful consideration. In addition, proverbs, aphorisms or beliefs about money can be also chosen for design. According to stakeholder satisfaction surveys, most stakeholders feel completely satisfied with all of the guidelines and consequently Bureau of Grand National Treasure, The Treasury Department follows the mentioned guidelines for designing souvenirs of The Coin Museum.
