Transforming Object Images

Abstract

The creation of art thesis named “Transforming Object Images” aims to apply objects and scraps of several materials in daily life of people in the social space to create three-dimensional mixed media layout artwork, by transforming an object into another form of semi-abstract object that turns out to have different essence from its original context/function, in the process of which experimental research and assembling by independent method are employed, thereby resulting in product of Thai style technique, using a mixture of visual art knowledge and craftsmanship as a way and scope in creating this artwork.

I opt to use those objects that have run out of efficiency to transform into unique format of artwork that general public might overlook, but are able to reflect beauty on their unique characteristic as appeared on the objects, which are the articles that tell about lifestyle of urban society, and scraps of which are upcycled, transformed; and creating new value by means of principle study, inspiration deriving from environment and influential artists, including knowledge in creating various forms by employing independent methods such as joining, knitting, embroidering, fastening, etc., all of which are done in a simple way according to Thai wisdom, in order to create aesthetic sense to stimulate their conceptual potential as well as the potential in the objects themselves, rather than their physical utilities.

Creative artwork by means of transforming leftovers into new objects with changing perception is presented as a layout format in the exhibition hall (the art gallery), thereby enhancing its value and meaning in term of arts rather than a general appliance, for recording of stories, memories, and experiences, which are far more meaningful than the original objects. Last but not least, this creative artwork represents balance and interaction between objects and human beings based on lifestyle of urban society in accordance with periods of time and changes.

การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานวิทยานิพนธ์ชุด “แปลงรูปวัตถุ” มีความมุ่งหมายในการประยุกต์ใช้วัตถุและเศษวัตถุสิ่งของในวิถีชีวิตประจำวันของผู้คนบนพื้นที่สังคม ด้วยการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะประเภท 3 มิติ สื่อผสมจัดวาง จากการแปลงรูปวัตถุอย่างหนึ่งไปสู่รูปทรงวัตถุกึ่งนามธรรม ที่ให้สาระทางวัตถุที่ต่างออกไปจากบริบทหน้าที่เดิม ด้วยกระบวนการศึกษาทดลอง ประกอบสร้างวิธีการอิสระ กลายเป็นผลงานแบบเทคนิคแบบไทย ๆ โดยอาศัยองค์ความรู้ด้านทัศนศิลป์ผสมผสานกับงานช่าง เป็นแนวทางและขอบเขตในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน

ข้าพเจ้าเลือกใช้วัตถุสิ่งของที่หมดประสิทธิภาพการใช้งาน มาแปลงรูปประกอบสร้างเป็นผลงานศิลปะในรูปแบบเฉพาะ ที่บุคคลทั่วไปอาจมองข้าม กลับมองเห็นถึงความงามในคุณค่าลักษณะพิเศษ ที่ปรากฏบนตัววัตถุ วัตถุที่บ่งบอกถึงการใช้ชีวิตของผู้คนในสังคมเมือง ด้วยการนำเศษวัตถุกลับมาใช้ใหม่ (upcyling) แปลงรูปและสร้างคุณค่าใหม่ ด้วยการศึกษาหลักการ หาแรงบันดาลใจจากสภาพแวดล้อมและ ศิลปินที่ส่งอิทธิพลในการสร้างสรรค์ รวมถึงองค์ความรู้ในการสร้างรูปทรงต่าง ๆ โดยใช้วิธีการอิสระ อาทิเช่น การเชื่อมต่อ การร้อยถัก การปะติด การผูกมัด ฯลฯ อย่างเรียบง่ายตามภูมิปัญญาแบบไทยในการสร้างสุนทรียภาพทางการรับรู้ เพื่อกระตุ้นศักยภาพทางความคิดและศักยภาพของตัววัตถุมากกว่าประโยชน์ใช้สอยทางกายภาพ

วัตถุสร้างสรรค์จากของเหลือใช้ ถูกประกอบร่างสร้างขึ้นมาเป็นวัตถุสิ่งใหม่ เปลี่ยนแปลงการรับรู้ใหม่ ถูกนำเสนอผลงานในรูปแบบการจัดวางในพื้นที่ห้องจัดแสดง (หอศิลป์) ทำให้วัตถุสิ่งนั้นเกิดคุณค่าและแสดงความหมายในฐานะเชิงศิลปะมากกว่าเครื่องใช้ไม้สอยทั่วไป เป็นการบันทึกเรื่องราว ความทรงจำและบอกเล่าประสบการณ์ ซึ่งมีความหมายต่างจากวัตถุเดิม ท้ายที่สุดผลงานสร้างสรรค์ได้แสดงให้เห็นถึงความสมดุลและการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กันระหว่างวัตถุสิ่งของกับมนุษย์ บนวิถีชีวิตการดำรงอยู่ในสังคมเมืองตามช่วงเวลาและความแปรเปลี่ยน
