Covering; Rubber Tires; Reinterpreting

Abstract

The creation of art thesis named “Covering, Rubber Tires, Reinterpreting” aims to present 3D mixed media sculpture artwork through the study of covering materials, adaptation of used objects to obtain maximum usefulness, application of existing objects by means of attribute substitution by which similar attributes are compared in order to find out the possibility of applying those things to create the maximum uses. Covering culture is one of human ways of life that has continually evolved and inherited from one generation to the next until it becomes a cultural output, a way of practice that appears as language, belief, tradition, and changing everyday life items by replacing them with new kinds of materials arising from human need of convenience and mental aesthetics, and thereby new perspectives are achieved to allow for creativity in material changes eventually to meet individual requirement.

The creation of this artwork exhibits how old tires can be utilized by making use of their special properties – durability, flexibility, strength, and the ability to be transformed as required – in the process of creating the artwork. For the purpose, experiments are carried out to find new feasible uses of these tires employing various techniques and approaches, and elaborateness in extracting their features as much as possible. In such process, apart from showing how to apply the worn-out tires, it also displays the beauty caused by using old tires to cover things of everyday life appliances that we get used to, by changing the material from its original physical characteristics, changing its physical surface, and changing its properties, in order to create attraction, impression, or a novel thing away from an accustomed one.

The creative work reflects value of leftover objects that become useless for its original tasks and put into other new uses to make it useful once again so as to obtain maximum new value, meaning, and beauty in itself. It also exhibits special technique of Thai people in the process of covering in connection with perspective of new outcome awareness of the object, and stories that can be interpreted either positively or negatively and demonstrated as work of contemporary art.

การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานวิทยานิพนธ์ชุด “ห่อหุ้ม ยาง แปรนัยยะ” มีความมุ่งหมายในการนำเสนอผลงานประติมากรรมประเภทสื่อผสม 3 มิติ จากการศึกษาปัจจัยในการห่อหุ้มวัสดุ นำสิ่งของมาดัดแปลงให้ได้ประโยชน์ตามที่ต้องการมากที่สุด การนำสิ่งที่มีอยู่มาประยุกต์ใช้โดยวิธีการทดแทนคุณสมบัติ ด้วยการเปรียบเทียบคุณสมบัติที่คล้ายคลึงกัน เพื่อหาความเป็นไปได้ในการประยุกต์สิ่งของให้เกิดประโยชน์มากที่สุด วัฒนธรรมการห่อหุ้ม วิถีชีวิตของมนุษย์ที่มีวิวิวัฒนาการมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ได้รับการเรียนรู้จากคนสมัยก่อนสืบทอดต่อมายังคนรุ่นหลัง จนกลายเป็นผลผลิตทางวัฒนธรรม วิถีปฏิบัติ ปรากฏออกมาเป็นภาษา ความเชื่อ ระเบียบประเพณี และการเปลี่ยนวัสดุในชีวิตประจำวันโดยการใช้วัสดุใหม่เข้ามาแทนที่ มาจากความต้องการของมนุษย์ การแสดงหาความสะดวกสบาย ความสุนทรียะทางใจ จึงเกิดมุมมองใหม่ ความคิดสร้างสรรค์ในการดัดแปลงวัสดุเพื่อให้เกิดประโยชน์ตามความต้องการของแต่ละบุคคล

ในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน แสดงให้เห็นถึงการนำยางรถยนต์เก่ามาใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์ ใช้คุณสมบัติพิเศษของยางรถยนต์มาใช้ในกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน ความทนทาน ความยืดหยุ่น ความแข็งแรง ที่สามารถแปรรูปได้ตามความต้องการ จึงนำยางมาทดลองหาความเป็นไปได้ใหม่ๆ ด้วยเทคนิค วิธีการที่หลากหลาย ความประณีตละเอียดอ่อนในการดึงความสนใจในตัววัสดุออกมาให้มากที่สุด นอกจากการแสดงถึงการประยุกต์ใช้ยางที่หมดสภาพการใช้ยางแล้ว ยังบ่งบอกถึงความงามที่เกิดจากการนำยางรถยนต์มาห่อหุ้มสิ่งของเครื่องใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันที่เราคุ้นชิน ด้วยการนำลักษณะทางกายภาพเดิม มาเปลี่ยนวัสดุ เปลี่ยนพื้นผิวทางกายภาพ และเปลี่ยนคุณสมบัติ เพื่อสร้างแรงดึงดูดใจ ความประทับใจ หรือความแปลกประหลาดใจจากสิ่งที่เคยชิน

ผลงานสร้างสรรค์สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงคุณค่าของวัสดุสิ่งของเหลือใช้ที่หมดประโยชน์จากการใช้งานเดิม กลับมาเก็บใช้ใหม่ เพื่อทำให้วัสดุนั้นเกิดประโยชน์ เกิดคุณค่าใหม่ ความหมาย ความงามในตัวเองอย่างสูงสุด การเชื่อมโยงเทคนิคเฉพาะของคนไทยในกระบวนการห่อหุ้ม กับมุมมองในการรับรู้ของวัตถุให้เกิดผลลัพธ์ใหม่ และเรื่องราวที่ตีความได้ทั้งแง่บวกและลบ ถ่ายทอดออกมาเป็นผลงานศิลปะร่วมสมัย
