| Abstract: | This Independent Study contains a translation and discussion of the four noble truths in Nāgārjuna's Mūlamadhyamakakārikā. Nāgārjuna's philosophy forms a coherent philosophical system rather than a collection of disparate ideas. The emphasis of the study is on an analysis of the philosophical content of Nagarjuna’s Mūlamadhyamakakārikā : the refutation of earlier Buddhist ideas of svabhāva and śūnyatā (emptiness), resulting in a new interpretation of pratīyasamutpāda (dependent origination) and the four noble truths. - |
