Abstract: This research adopts a qualitative research method, integrating the first - grade Buzi patterns of the Ming and Qing dynasties with new - Chinese - style clothing and applying them to the toasting gowns for new - Chinese - style weddings. Data collection and market research on the Buzi patterns of the Ming and Qing dynasties and new - Chinese - style clothing are carried out through literature research and field investigations. The research process is mainly divided into decode and encode. By analyzing the historical culture, aesthetic features, philosophical connotations of the Buzi patterns, as well as the market, cultural and aesthetic demands of new - Chinese - style clothing, a series of new - Chinese - style toasting gowns with the first - grade Buzi patterns of the Ming and Qing dynasties are encoded. During the design process, the OTP principle is followed to break and recombine the patterns and make them adapt to the body curves. In the experimental process, the New IMO(E) method of Mr. Erwin Ardianto HALM is integrated for repeated trials. By integrating economic value and philosophical connotations, a new approach to the modern clothing design of traditional patterns is summarized.
