Abstract: As an important medium for the development of art in the new media era, watercolor painting faces challenges in the aesthetic education of colleges , such as incomplete courses and lack of the core concept of "educating people with beauty". At the same time, At the same time, the beauty of "harmony between man and nature" advocated by traditional Chinese Taoist culture is in line with the "Six Principles of Xie He", and together they have promoted the construction of the "Watercolor Painting" aesthetic education course at Nanjing Xiaozhuang College, providing a new path for the cultivation of cultural understanding, aesthetic perception and artistic creativity. By constructing the "Watercolor Painting" course teaching plan for the aesthetic education course of Nanjing Xiaozhuang College, we enrich the course content and promote the development of aesthetic education in colleges and universities. We use the PBL(Project-Based Learning) teaching method combined with the "Xie He's Six Principles" to promote the popularization and development of watercolor painting. At the same time, we integrate teaching modules such as "Spirit-resonance" with traditional Chinese Taoist philosophy to construct contemporary aesthetics and spirit to serve the public. This research has several limitations. First, the scope of the research was limited to the teaching and creation process of watercolor painting within the framework of "Xie He's Six Principles", and did not include other art forms or water-based materials. Second, this research only focused on the "Watercolor Painting" general education course at Nanjing Xiaozhuang College, and the research results cannot be generalized to other colleges and universities. Third, the sample included students from non-art background majors, many of whom lacked painting experience and basic art knowledge, and it was difficult for them to achieve advanced results within the limited class hours of 16 classes per semester. This research innovatively combines the "Xie He's Six Principles" with modern watercolor teaching, and develops a set of professional teaching outlines for non-art backgrounds that connect traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary education. It highlights the role of aesthetic education courses in cultivating creativity, cultural confidence, and social aesthetic development, and provides a replicable interdisciplinary model for the combination of traditional art theory and modern education. Future research can expand the sample range to cover different regions and disciplines in China, and promote the wider application of research results in aesthetic education at different levels from primary school to professional education. It should also focus on interdisciplinary integration, explore the application of Xie He's Six Principles in fields such as music, architecture and design, and conduct long-term research to evaluate the lasting impact of aesthetic education on students' growth and cultural appreciation.
