EMBRACE OF THORN

Abstract

The thesis project titled Embrace of Thorns aims to study, research, experiment with, and develop visual art in terms of concept, technique, and presentation. The objective is to create contemporary paintings that reflect violence in power-based romantic relationships, expressed through Surrealist oil painting. Inspired by personal experiences, the artist creates works rich in symbolism—such as cats, flowers, thorns, and misty atmospheres—representing the emotional state of victims deprived of their freedom to be themselves.

This study was carried out through a creative research process involving the exploration of relevant theories and the study of works by influential artists. These insights were combined with imagination and inspiration, resulting in artworks with a distinct artistic identity.

The results of the study and creative process include three artworks that align with the project's objectives. The first piece, Embrace No.1, is presented in a horizontal rectangular format, creating a wide landscape view under a turbulent blue sky. It features flowers, a cat, and numerous thorns, symbolizing the continued presence of violence in many romantic relationships. The second piece, Embrace No.2, is composed vertically beneath a red sky and sandy ground. The altered color scheme and setting reflect how such problems also occur in other regions—regardless of time, place, culture, or language—highlighting that violence committed in the name of love persists across eras and societies. The third piece, Embrace No.3, uses a square format beneath an unusual green sky, suggesting an abnormal state of nature. This contrasts with the stillness of a cat, a fish, and other elements, representing a state of silent submission. It reflects the reality that many domestic violence victims often conceal their suffering without seeking justice. All three works include eyes, symbolizing public awareness yet emotional detachment from others’ private struggles.

The artist refined technical methods to effectively communicate these ideas. The project aims to raise awareness of all forms of violence that may exist within romantic or familial relationships, encouraging viewers to reconsider the nature of love, control, and freedom, and to reflect on how much autonomy and dignity one truly holds and grants to others. Ultimately, the work aspires to promote a society that values and respects human dignity in its truest form.

การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปนิพนธ์หัวข้อ ในอ้อมกอดของหนาม มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา ค้นคว้า สร้างสรรค์และพัฒนางานทัศนศิลป์ ทั้งด้านแนวคิด เทคนิควิธีการและรูปแบบการนำเสนอ เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมร่วมสมัยที่สะท้อนปัญหาความรุนแรงในความสัมพันธ์เชิงอำนาจของคู่รัก โดยถ่ายทอดผ่านรูปแบบศิลปะแนวเหนือจริง (Surrealism) ด้วยเทคนิคสีน้ำมัน (Oil painting) ซึ่งผู้สร้างสรรค์มีประสบการณ์ส่วนบุคคลเป็นแรงบันดาลใจหลักในการสร้างผลงานที่แสดงออกด้วยสัญญะ อาทิ แมว ดอกไม้ หนาม และท่ามกลางบรรยากาศหมอกควัน สื่อถึงความรู้สึกของผู้ถูกกระทำที่ถูกควบคุมบงการจนขาดอิสระภาพในการเป็นตัวของตัวเอง

การศึกษานี้ดำเนินการผ่านกระบวนการวิจัยเชิงสร้างสรรค์ โดยศึกษาแนวคิดจากทฤษฎีที่เกี่ยวข้อง ควบคู่กับการศึกษาผลงานของศิลปินที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการสร้างสรรค์ ทั้งด้านแนวคิด เทคนิควิธีการและรูปแบบการนำเสนอ นำมาพัฒนาและต่อยอดผสมผสานจินตนาการและแรงบันดาลใจ จนเกิดเป็นผลงานศิลปะที่มีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะของผู้สร้างสรรค์

ผลการศึกษาและสร้างสรรค์ผลงานในครั้งนี้ ผู้สร้างสรรค์ได้ทำการศึกษาข้อมูล นำมาวิเคราะห์และสร้างสรรค์ผลงานให้ตรงตามวัตถุประสงค์ โดยมีผลงานทั้งหมด จำนวน 3 ชิ้น แได้แก่ ชิ้นที่ 1 ชื่อ Embrace no.1 มีการนำเสนอในพื้นที่สี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้าแนวนอน ทำให้เกิดทัศนียภาพมีระยะกว้างไกลออกไป ท่ามกลางบรรยากาศท้องฟ้าสีน้ำเงินแปรปรวน โดยผ่านสัญลักษณ์ของดอกไม้ แมว และหนามอีกหลายต้น สื่อถึงปัญหาความรุนแรงดังกล่าวยังคงเกิดขึ้นในอีกหลายคู่ในสังคม ชิ้นที่ 2 ชื่อ Embrace no.2 นำเสนอองค์ประกอบภาพในลักษณะแนวตั้ง ภายใต้ท้องฟ้าสีแดงและพื้นทราย โดยสีสันและพื้นที่ที่เปลี่ยนไปเป็นการกล่าวถึงปัญหาที่มีการเกิดขึ้นในพื้นที่อื่นๆ ด้วยเช่นกัน แม้กาลเวลา บริบทพื้นที่ภูมิประเทศ ภาษาวัฒนธรรม ผู้คนจะแตกต่าง แต่ความรุนแรงที่มนุษย์กระทำต่อกันในนามความรักยังคงเกิดขึ้นทุกยุคทุกสมัย และชิ้นที่ 3 ชื่อ Embrace no.3 นำเสนอในพื้นที่สี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัส ภายใต้บรรยากาศท้องฟ้าสีเขียว เป็นปรากฎการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นได้ยากในธรรมชาติ แสดงถึงสภาวะไม่ปกติ ซึ่งสวนทางกกับความสงบนิ่งของแมว ปลา และองค์ประกอบอื่นๆในภาพ แสดงถึงสภาวะจำยอม นิ่งเงียบภายใต้สถานการณ์ที่ไม่ปกติ สะท้อนถึงปัญหาที่มีผู้ถูกกระทำจากความรุนแรงในครอบครัวส่วนใหญ่มักจะปกปิดปัญหา ไม่ได้ออกมาเรียกร้องความเป็นธรรมให้ตนเอง ซึ่งทั้ง 3 ภาพนี้ปรากฏภาพของดวงตา เปรียบถึงการรับรู้จากผู้คนรอบข้าง โดยเลือกที่จะนิ่งเฉยไม่ขอยุ่งเกี่ยวกับปัญหาภายในครอบครัวผู้อื่น

โดยผลงานทั้ง 3 ชิ้นสะท้อนถึงความเปราะบางของความสัมพันธ์ที่มีการใช้ความรุนแรงในนามของความรัก โดยมีการพัฒนาเทคนิควิธีการในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน เพื่อให้สามารถถ่ายทอดผลงานได้บรรลุวัตถุประสงค์ ผลงานชุดนี้ผู้สร้างสรรค์มุ่งหวังสะท้อนถึงปัญหาความรุนแรงที่เกิดขึ้นกับความรัก เพื่อให้ผู้ชมตระหนักถึงความรุนแรงทุกรูปแบบที่อาจเกิดขึ้นได้ในครอบครัว ให้เกิดการกลับมาทบทวนทุกความสัมพันธ์ที่มีและตั้งคำถามว่าแท้จริงแล้วมนุษย์นั้นมีสิทธิเสรีภาพในชีวิตตนเองและผู้อื่นเพียงใด เพื่อสร้างสังคมที่เห็นคุณค่าเคารพศักดิ์ศรีความเป็นมนุษย์ทั้งของตนเองและผู้อื่นอย่างแท้จริง
