Abstract: The BTS Skytrain is an important mass transit system in Bangkok, having a strong influence on urban development, especially on the catchment areas of the BTS Skytrain stations. However, certain physical characteristics in the catchment areas may not align with the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) context. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the physical characteristics in the catchment areas of the BTS Skytrain stations in Ratchadamri–Krung Thon Buri segment. The study covers the catchment areas of all the stations along this segment which are categorized into interchange stations—Sala Daeng, Chong Nonsi, and Saphan Taksin—and non-interchange stations—Ratchadamri, Surasak, and Krung Thon Buri. The objective is to study and compare the physical characteristics in the catchment areas of both types of the stations. The study found that, for all the catchment areas, some important physical characteristics for TOD do not correspond to the framework for evaluating suitability of physical characteristics in catchment areas of interchange and non-interchange stations in Bangkok. Specifically, the physical characteristics that correspond to the framework are: (1) ridership of mass transit system, and (2) mass transit and feeder system. Meanwhile, the physical characteristics that do not correspond to the framework are: (1) building use (2) road block size (3) drop-off areas (4) footpath network (5) footpath width, and (6) walkability and bikeability of the station’s inner catchment area; which need to be further improved.
